My Mother - Celebrating 96 and a 1/2 years of Faithfulness and Prayer
I give thanks to God for the extraordinary gift of my mother’s life, Herculena Johanna Roets — 96 and a 1/2 years (she always reminded me of the ‘half’) marked by faith, perseverance, and love that reflected the heart of Jesus.
She walked with the Lord through every season, and her life was a living testimony of His goodness.
Mum’s legacy to her children was not only her example, but a spiritual inheritance. She showed us what it means to trust God in every circumstance, to pray without ceasing, and to anchor our lives in His Word. She taught us that the truest riches are found in Christ and that the highest calling is to serve others in His name.
Her hands were often busy — cooking, cleaning, helping, giving — but her spirit was always worshipping. She was a prayer warrior who quietly carried her family and friends before the throne of grace.
I am who I am today because of a praying mother.
She had the humility to live without seeking praise, yet her life radiated the light of Christ.
I have sought to follow her example — to keep faith central, to live generously, to work diligently, and to love unconditionally. Her influence has shaped not only my values but my calling, reminding me that the greatest ministry often happens in the hidden, everyday acts of obedience.
Though she is no longer with us, the seeds she planted continue to bear fruit. Her faith still speaks, her prayers still echo, and her example still inspires.
Ninety-six and a half years was her earthly measure, but her true measure is eternal — stored in heaven where moth and rust cannot destroy.
“Her children arise and call her blessed… a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” — Proverbs 31:28, 30
